Relaxation Instead of Control: Why Clenching Speeds Up the Finish

Why trying to control ejaculation through tension and muscular clenching works against a man, and how relaxing the three zones changes the whole dynamic of the arousal Bottle.

Updated:

Most men do the same thing when they feel PONR approaching: they clench. They tighten the belly, the glutes, the perineum, sometimes almost to the point of cramping. It feels intuitive: hold it in, do not let it out, force it with willpower. But the physiology works differently. Clenching means a closed leak in the Bottle. It adds extra inflow through muscular tension. It raises the temperature of sensation. The result is simple: you tighten up, and PONR arrives even faster. This is not a character flaw. It is a bodily automatism working against you. And it can be retrained.

Четыре столпа Метода Журова: осознанность, дыхание, расслабление и управление
Метод держится на четырёх столпах: сначала мужчина замечает процесс, потом учится дышать, расслаблять тело и управлять возбуждением до ПОНР.

In short

 • Clenching closes the leak and raises the temperature of arousal. Physiologically, that speeds up PONR instead of delaying it.
 • There are three accelerator zones: the belly and diaphragm, the pelvis and perineum, and the glutes. When all three are tight, the Bottle fills quickly.
 • Relaxation does not mean losing arousal or losing erection. It means shifting from burning up to being able to stay with the experience.
 • The skill of relaxing under arousal is trainable. It does not appear just from understanding - only from repetition in CM.
 • Control through clenching is a fight against the body. Management through relaxation is cooperation with the body.

Why clenching accelerates instead of delaying

Look at the physiology. When the muscles of the belly, pelvis, and glutes tighten, several things happen at once. First, the leak closes: arousal stops dispersing, so the Bottle fills faster. Second, muscular tension itself sends an extra signal to the sympathetic system: activation mode. That increases inflow. Third, a tense perineum belongs to the same muscle group that participates in the ejaculatory reflex. Its tension lowers the trigger threshold.

The result is that a man clenches "to hold it" and PONR arrives sooner than if he had simply continued calmly. That is not weak willpower. It is a bodily automatism the body has learned over years.

The scheme looks like this: [Arousal rises] -> [Automatic clenching of belly and pelvis] -> [Leak = 0, inflow up, temperature up] -> [PONR arrives faster] -> [The man thinks: "I couldn't hold it" even though the clenching itself accelerated it]

The three zones: where the accelerators live

The first zone is the belly and diaphragm. A clenched belly blocks diaphragmatic breathing, shifting it into the chest and sending a sympathetic signal, while also creating intra-abdominal pressure that transfers into the pelvis. This is usually the first and most visible accelerator.

The second zone is the pelvis and perineum. This is where the pelvic-floor muscles live, including the PC muscle. Chronic tone in this zone is a direct path to a lower PONR threshold. When the perineum is relaxed, the leak is open, the temperature drops, and the Bottle stabilizes.

The third zone is the glutes. They are directly linked to the pelvis. Tight glutes create extra tension in the perineum. Often a man does not even notice that his glutes are clenched - it is an automatic, unconscious response to growing arousal. Simply noticing and releasing it is already half the work.

How to train relaxation under arousal

In CM, when arousal begins to rise, deliberately scan the three zones. Did the belly tighten? Release it. Did the pelvis tense? Release it. Are the glutes squeezing? Release them. This is not "relax and lose everything." It is precise work with the tensions that have become accelerators.

An important principle: relax the zones first, then change the pace. If you slow down while staying tense, the leak is still zero. If you release the tension first and only then regulate the pace, the temperature drops much faster.

In sex the same logic applies, but it is more difficult: there is a partner, movement, and contact. That is why CM comes first as a safe training ground for the new reflex. Once the body has learned "notice tension -> release it" in calmer conditions, it begins to work in sex too.

Relaxation is not passivity

There is a common misunderstanding here: if I relax, I will lose my erection or lose the arousal. That is not true. Relaxing the three zones does not mean going limp. It means removing extra tension that gets in the way while keeping natural tone.

You can be fully aroused, have a strong erection, and still have a relaxed belly, a free perineum, and soft glutes. That is the state of management rather than clenching. In that state the Bottle does not overheat instantly - it gives you room to exhale, to pause, and to take the next movement more consciously.

Management is not squeezing. Management is precision. You notice tension, release it, and continue. That is the skill that separates manageable arousal from an automatic finish.

First step for 7 days

 • During your next CM, deliberately scan the three zones every 60 seconds: belly, pelvis, glutes. If they are tight, release them before changing anything about the pace.
 • Check your baseline tone right now. Sitting where you are, can you fully relax the belly, perineum, and glutes? If not, that is your working material.
 • In CM, when arousal rises, do not clench. Try the opposite on purpose: release instead and notice what happens to the sensations.
 • After practice, write down which of the three zones tightened first. That is your main accelerator, and it should be the first place you work.

Common questions

If I relax, won't I lose my erection?

No. Erection depends on blood inflow into the erectile tissue and on parasympathetic tone. Relaxing the belly, pelvis, and glutes does not shut off penile blood flow. In fact, removing extra tension often improves erection quality.

How do I learn to relax the pelvis while aroused?

Through repetition in CM under safe conditions. In strong arousal the body returns to its automatism. The new reflex - noticed tension, released tension - is built through 20-30 repetitions in CM where there is no extra pressure.

So control through clenching does not work at all?

Sometimes it works like an emergency brake in the last second. But as a strategy, it makes things worse over time. The muscles get used to clenching, the threshold drops, and the pattern becomes reinforced. Relaxation is the more stable path.

Is this medical treatment?

An important point: the Zhurov Method is an educational skill-training system, not treatment. We do not replace doctors. If you have acute physical pain, inflammation, or other medical symptoms, start with a urologist. That is a normal adult step for a man, and we can train attention management and relaxation in parallel.
